Born with cerebral palsy, David Smith first played Boccia at junior school. At the age of 14, he became the youngest ever British Champion and was World Champion by the time he was 18!
David has not been beaten for seven years at the English National Championships and GB Championships. He made his Paralympic debut at the Beijing 2008 Games, where he was part of the team which won Gold in the BC1/BC2 event.
David has also won the individual Gold medal at the 2009 European Championships in Porto and at the 2011 Europa Cup in Norway. In addition, he won Gold at the London Boccia Invitational Test Event in London in 2012.
At the London 2012 Paralympic Games, David won the Silver medal in the individual event, as well as Bronze in the team event. At Rio 2016 he went on the win Gold in the individual event.
David has an interest in World War Two aircraft and is studying Aerospace Engineering at Swansea University.
