During the week beginning 22 June 2015 (which is also National School Sports Week) we will be running a series of additional sports activities and initiatives to encourage participation and to get our students thinking about their own physical activity rates, taking on challenges, and relating this to the Olympic and Paralympic Values.
On Olympic Day itself every Year 7 pupil in our school (260+) has their double PE lesson. For this week only the staff have organised a carousel of Olympic sports activities and the students will participate in these in their classes - raising their awareness of the Olympic sports themselves but also of the Olympic and Paralympic values and Rio 2014.
As it is also NSSW, throughout the week there will be additional lunch time and after school sports activities free of charge, some of which are new activities and include taster sessions linked to community clubs.
Students are being challenged to engage in 5 hours of sporting/physical activity that week and will be able to get a "5 hour pass" on which to record their efforts. These will go into a draw for a range of prizes at the end of the week.
Staff are also being encouraged to engage in the additional activities as role models to students who enjoy seeing "Sir" or "Miss" participate!
The week concludes with our own Mini-Community Olympics (sports day with bells on!!). This involves all staff and students competing in their communities for the "traditional" athletics events as well as numerous "have a go" challenges from dance to drag racing!
