I was an Olympic Games Maker at the Excel Centre which hosted a number of Olympic sports including Judo, Boxing, Table Tennis and Wrestling.

After my training and collecting my kit my excitement for the fortnight of volunteering grew. Throughout my time at the ExCel Centre where I was working for Event Services, I carried out a number of roles including welcoming spectators and scanning their tickets, showing people to their seats in the arenas, working back of house approving athletes and coaches ID badges and working in the VIP and media block.

The energy, enthusiasm and friendliness from other Games Makers was infectious and something I don't think I will ever experience again. Every shift regardless of the time it started, would involve meeting new people and sharing stories from the previous day. I was fortunate to be working on the Boxing on the day of the first ever women's Olympic Boxing fight.

There are many amazing memories and stories I have from my Games Maker role, however there is one key thing that stands out. This is one of unity from the spectators who visited from all over the world. Spectators would sit side by side, talk about the sport in the corridors and help each other on the tube on their way home. The friendship and respect they showed for each other was so powerful and overwhelming to experience.
