To create and produce an Opening and a Closing Ceremony for the Olympic Games, and an Opening and Closing Ceremony for the Paralympic Games, was a truly epic challenge. All four Ceremonies were to be held in the Olympic Stadium in front of 80,000 people and watched by millions of people on television.
The first job was to employ the right people with great creative ideas. Danny Boyle, Kim Gavin, Bradley Hemmings and Jenny Sealey were appointed as our artistic directors and we employed brilliant producers and production staff who could turn their ideas into reality. So when Danny Boyle wanted the Olympic Rings to meet in mid-air in the middle of the stadium and burn with fireworks we needed to have people on the team who knew how to make that happen.
There are so many things to be proud of about our ceremonies. I have many favourite moments. In the Opening Ceremony I really enjoyed JK Rowling reading from Peter Pan. I loved the Spice Girls in the Olympic Closing Ceremony and Rhianna in the Paralympic Closing Ceremony. And to have Stephen Hawking, the amazing scientist, narrate our Paralympic Opening Ceremony was very special.
What's great about all future Games is knowing how different they will all be. The Winter Games in Sochi will hopefully celebrate everything that is Russian and likewise for Rio and Brazil. If you take inspiration from where you live there will always be something different to say.
