Year 5 took part in an entire module of work based around the Paralympics, with help from disability sport Yorkshire. The module included a variety of sports including wheelchair basketball, boccia, goalball, sitting volleyball and wheelchair rugby!
Throughout the spring term, year 5 were lucky enough to try out a variety of Paralympic events, some of which involved the children sitting in wheelchairs or being blind folded. The lessons, led by a team from disability sport Yorkshire, allowed all abilities to take part and have now been an integral part of the year 5's PE curriculum for the past 2 years. With the Olympic and Paralympic games this year, we felt as a year group it was vital we continued this experience, and would certainly look to continue this in the future. The children all experienced something completely new and had nothing but positive comments about each lesson. Whilst having fun, the children also made links to some of the school values, and the Olympic/Paralympic values, hosting an assembly on what they had learnt.
