My role was to lead the Organising Committee responsible for planning and staging the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
I am immensely proud that the London 2012 Games were hugely successful. I am also proud of the extraordinary generosity of the British people and the fact that the Olympic Stadium was full on 33 consecutive sessions of Olympic and Paralympic athletics.
I was inspired by the people that I witnessed every day - extraordinary British people with passion and generosity of spirit. From our brilliant volunteers who literally made the Games, and the public who gave such passionate support, to the people who day in and day out inspire the lives of others in their neighbourhoods and their communities. It is their passion, their hard work and their commitment that delivered the world's biggest event, generated billions of pounds for UK businesses, involved millions of people in every nation and region, created thousands of new jobs, built a new neighbourhood in east London, inspired a generation to choose sport and changed attitudes to disability not just for the summer, but forever.
The London 2012 Games created a fantastic opportunity for GB to build on their success for Sochi, Rio and beyond, and to continue to inspire more young people to take up sport.
