Destination Challenge: Play Non-stop Volley!

Indoor volleyball and beach volleyball are both Olympic sports. Sitting volleyball is a Paralympic sport. In all of them, players use their hands to hit (volley) the ball between teammates and over the net. To play volleyball you need to be able to control how hard and high you hit the ball. Play Non-stop Volley to practise your control.

Time: 5 minutes

Get ready:

  • 2 players.
  • 1 large, light ball, e.g., balloon, beach ball, volleyball.
  • 1 ‘fixed’ net, e.g., washing line, fence, wall or
  • 1 ‘temporary’ net, e.g., skipping rope tied to posts or held by 2 people.

 Play:

  • Players stand on opposite sides of the net, facing each other.
  • Volley the ball to each other by pushing it with both hands – palms upwards – above your head.
  • Try to keep the ball moving – do not catch/stop it.
  • How many volleys can you make without dropping or stopping the ball?
    10 times = bronze, 20 = silver, 30 = gold!
  • No matter how many you do, try to beat your score each time.

Change the game:

  • Play without a net.
  • Sit on chairs or on the floor.
  • Use different parts of your body to volley, e.g., one hand, shoulder, elbow, head.
