Time required: 60 minutes
ACTIVITY IDEA
Challenge outcomes
- Describe how a shape poem is written.
- Choose someone or some aspect of the Games as the poem’s focus.
Teacher notes
Introduce pupils/students to the shape poem. This challenge invites pupils to write a shape poem about their pride in someone they know: friends, family or a chosen Olympic or Paralympic athlete. Use the presentation to introduce shape poetry to pupils/students and then hand out the template for pupils/students to begin writing their own poem.
Support: Pupils/students support each other by creating word banks, focusing on vocabulary that expresses your pride in something related to the Games.
Challenge: Once completed, pupils/students explore alternative words with the same meanings to swap into their poem to make it more interesting!
